What does visibility mean in business?

The meaning of visibility in business is all about how you, and your business, make sure you’re being seen by the right people. When Anna thinks back to her days as a retailer, she says she had this phrase that she always used - "see it, like it, buy it." This is why the best sellers had to be at eye level on the shelf. Visibility is simply how easily and frequently a business or brand is being seen by its target audience.  Business visibility is crucial for several reasons:

  • Brand Awareness: Being visible ensures that your brand is known. It's about making your target audience aware of your existence, products, or services.

  • Visibility contributes to building credibility and trust. When your audience consistently sees your brand, it establishes a sense of reliability.

  • Gaining new customer visibility and visibility online can lead to increased leads and conversions.

  • Businesses that are highly visible in their industry are often perceived as authorities. This can lead to partnerships, collaborations, and more opportunities.

  • Competitive edge is important. In a crowded market, being visible gives you that competitive edge. If customers see your brand more often then you're more likely to be their choice when they decide to purchase.

How can you increase brand visibility?

There are so many ways you can get visible online and offline. Anna often finds that people tend to limit themselves; they fail to look at the bigger picture when trying to increase business visibility. The great news is that increasing your brand’s presence online doesn't just mean showing up on reels - something which many people dread.  Probably the most obvious piece of advice Anna gives clients is that they should show up by increasing their social media presence.  Actively engaging on platforms where your audience spends time is important and can help improve visibility amongst your target audience.

Anna says that whilst you must create valuable and relevant content to showcase your expertise online, there is so much more you can do if you are camera shy. Anna gave us her top examples on how to increase brand visibility if you don’t like creating social media content:

  • SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is a huge opportunity for small businesses and local businesses who want to increase visibility in their area. SEO is usually under utilised, yet it can have a massive impact on increasing business sales. It has become even more important for social media to be SEO optimised, so knowing your keywords and ensuring they are in key places so your brand is visible to your target audience is vital.

  • Networking remains important when trying to increase brand awareness. In Anna’s opinion, nothing beats a real life connection. Meeting business connections in person can help build trust and create long lasting relationships. Networking can also help you build connections within your industry and beyond.

  • Public Relations and managing how your brand is perceived in the public eye can help increase business visibility. Using a public relations expert to improve your presence in the media and press can help create brand visibility.

  • Events and Sponsorships can also be valuable when done the right way. Participating in sponsorship or hosting an event relevant to your industry can help improve awareness of your brand. It can make you visible to a specific audience.

The combination of each of the above depends on your business needs. The most important thing is all of the above involve strategic and consistent effort to make your brand stand out in a crowded marketplace. Anna says that is why you should create a business visibility plan which includes some, or all, of the above.

Why is community important for your business and how can it increase brand visibility?

A strong community creates a sense of belonging amongst customers. When people feel connected to a brand or a business, they are more likely to remain loyal and make repeat purchases. Creating a community means you are usually selling to a warm audience, where conversion is easier. If you are selling to a cold audience i.e. those who are new to your brand, selling can be difficult.

The other big plus of having a community rather than a following is word of mouth marketing. Communities can be powerful advocates of your brand and its story. Satisfied customers within a community are likely to recommend products or services to their peers, leading to positive word-of-mouth marketing. Nothing beats a trusted referral and your brand’s community is a group of brand advocates who will naturally increase brand visibility!

Businesses can use their community as a pool for market research. Understanding their needs, preferences, and the challenges of your community members can guide strategic decision-making and shape your business’ offering. Ultimately if you know and understand exactly what your existing customers need and want, then you will be able to improve your product or offering. This will also help you attract new customers to your business.
